Dahi Handi Survivor Seeks Permanent Medical Support After 17 Years
Nagesh Bhoir was taking part in a Dahi Handi celebration in Bhiwandi in 2009.
He fell when the human pyramid he was climbing collapsed.
Nagesh was 24 years old at the time.
The fall badly injured his spine, and he has not been able to stand since then.
He now uses a bed or wheelchair and depends on his family for daily needs.
He needs hospital care and special treatment every two months.
His family has difficulty paying these continuing costs, although some friends help with money.
His mother is asking the Maharashtra government for regular support instead of a single payment.
Nagesh also urges Govindas to celebrate Dahi Handi enthusiastically while taking safety seriously.
