Canara Bank CEO Focuses on Raising NIMs
Canara Bank's new CEO, Brajesh Kumar Singh, is focusing on raising the bank's net interest margins (NIMs) by shifting from bulk deposits to retail and term deposits.
The bank has seen improvements in asset quality, with gross and net NPAs decreasing.
However, there has been an increase in SMA-2 accounts due to delays in repayment from government-guaranteed consortium-financed accounts.
The bank plans to provide Rs 10,000 crore to Rs 12,000 crore for expected credit loss (ECL) provisions over the next two years, which they believe they can manage comfortably with their annual profitability likely to cross Rs 20,000 crore.
The bank is also looking into acquisition finance, starting with domestic M&A activities before venturing globally.
