Dietary Changes Needed to Lower Diabetes Risk in India
In India, many people eat a lot of carbs like rice and not enough protein, which can lead to diabetes.
Doctors studied this and found that just switching from white rice to brown rice or other grains isn't enough.
They recommend eating fewer carbs overall and getting more protein, especially from plants, dairy, eggs, or fish.
This means changing how we eat to include less carbohydrates and more of the proteins to stay healthy and reduce the chances of diabetes.
Indian diets are often high in carbohydrates and low in quality protein.
Simply switching from white rice to other grains may not improve health outcomes.
Reducing carbs and increasing plant/dairy protein can lower diabetes risk.
Replacing carbs with plant, dairy, egg or fish protein lowers the risk.
Replacing carbs with red meat or fat did not have the same effect.
