TN to Upgrade 20 High Schools to Higher Secondary Level
The Tamil Nadu government is increasing access to education by upgrading 20 high schools to higher secondary schools.
This means students can complete their schooling without changing schools.
The School Education Minister announced the plan earlier, and the government is hiring 200 new teachers and spending money to make it happen.
The goal is to help students in rural and semi-urban areas continue their studies and reduce the number of students who drop out.
However, some schools have seen declining enrollment recently, with many schools having to close due to a lack of students.
Tamil Nadu will upgrade 20 government high schools to higher secondary schools for the 2025-26 academic year.
The initiative follows a budget announcement by the School Education Minister.
200 postgraduate teachers will be appointed across the schools, with ten teachers per school.
The state government has approved an expenditure of approximately Rs 29.39 crore for the initiative.
The aim is to improve access to education, reduce dropout rates, and restore confidence in state-run institutions.
