KCR Plans Mass Movement Over Telangana Irrigation Projects
K. Chandrasekhar Rao, also called KCR, leads the BRS party in Telangana.
He says his party will protest against the Congress government after the state Assembly session.
The protests will focus on two large water projects, Kaleshwaram and Palamuru-Ranga Reddy.
The BRS says water is available in Kaleshwaram but is not being sent to farmers.
It also says the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy project was mostly completed earlier but has been left unfinished.
The Congress government has said Kaleshwaram’s barrages should be repaired according to dam-safety recommendations.
BRS members will also raise unpaid student-fee reimbursements and problems involving farmers, employees and land transactions.
Congress has criticized KCR for not attending the Assembly, while the BRS says he is avoiding what it calls abusive treatment.
BRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao plans to lead mass protests against the Congress government after the Assembly session.
The BRS alleges that usable water from the Kaleshwaram project is not being released to farmers.
The party says the previous BRS government completed about 80% of the Palamuru-Ranga Reddy project and that remaining work could provide 60 TMC of water.
BRS legislators will raise fee-reimbursement dues, farm loans, drought, land restrictions, employee benefits and other issues during the session.
The BRS wants the session extended to one month, while Congress has criticized KCR’s Assembly absence and demanded his resignation.
