Madhya Pradesh Introduces Hindi BUMS Textbooks
Madhya Pradesh is the first state in India to introduce Hindi textbooks for Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) students.
This change is to help students who don't know Urdu, the traditional language of Unani medicine.
The government Unani Medical College in Bhopal has 75 seats, and there are also private colleges in Indore, Dewas, and Burhanpur.
Unani medicine is one of the oldest medical systems, originating in ancient Greece and later developing in Persia and the Arab world.
It focuses on balancing four bodily humours: blood, phlegm, yellow bile, and black bile.
The treatment includes diet, medicines, massage, exercise, and steam therapy.
This move is expected to make the course more accessible to students from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes.
Madhya Pradesh introduces Hindi textbooks for BUMS students starting from the 2025-26 academic session.
The move aims to make Unani medical education more accessible to non-Urdu-speaking students.
