MC flags illegal occupation of footpaths, asks police action
The Municipal Corporation in Chandigarh has found that many vendors are illegally using footpaths and public areas to set up their stalls.
This is causing problems for people walking and moving around in places like Sectors 15, 17, 19, 22, 41, and Manimajra.
The MC has tried to stop this by giving fines and taking away the vendors' things, but some vendors have been causing trouble and even fighting with officials.
Now, the MC has asked the police to take legal action against these vendors to make sure the footpaths stay clear and safe for everyone.
MC reports widespread illegal occupation of footpaths and public passages by vendors in Chandigarh.
Affected areas include Sectors 15, 17, 19, 22, 41, and Manimajra.
Vendors have been placing stalls, rehris, and tables, causing inconvenience to pedestrians.
Despite repeated fines and seizures, vendors continue unauthorised vending and have resorted to disturbances and altercations.
MC has asked Chandigarh Police to register cases against illegal vendors under the BNS, 2023.
