Sony Pictures Revenue Falls 13% as TV Deliveries Slow
Sony Pictures made less money this quarter, losing 13% compared to last year.
They sold fewer TV shows and only one movie, so that part of the business did not do well.
But their music part did better, especially because people liked Michael Jackson songs again.
PlayStation sold the same amount of games, but made more money because of refunds from a court decision.
Sony still expects to earn a little more next year than before.
Sony Pictures revenue fell 13% YoY to $1.978 billion, operating income rose 21% to $156 million.
Television unit revenue dropped 32% to $571 million due to fewer series deliveries.
Theatrical revenue was $30 million from a single film, “The Breadwinner.”
Music division revenue climbed 21% to 557.9 billion yen, driven by Michael Jackson catalog sales.
PlayStation hardware sales fell 1.5 million units, but operating income jumped 37% to 202 billion yen.
