HC Issues Notices in Contempt Case Over Ahmedabad Demolitions

HC Issues Notices in Contempt Case Over Ahmedabad Demolitions
HC issues notices to Gujarat govt, AMC, police in contempt of court plea over demolitions · indianexpress.com

The Gujarat High Court has sent notices to the Gujarat government, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), and the Ahmedabad City Police.

This is because two houses in Ahmedabad were demolished, and the court thinks this might have broken the rules set by the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court had said that before demolishing any building, the authorities must give the owners enough time to respond.

The petitioners, Saiyda Banu and her son, say they were not given enough time and that the demolition happened even after they had gone to court to stop it.

The High Court will hear more about this case on February 2, 2025.
