India Balances Online Content Regulation with AVGC Sector Growth
The Indian government is working on two things: letting people be creative online, but also making sure things are safe and not inappropriate.
They have rules for online streaming platforms (like Netflix) so that they can't show things that are against the law.
If something goes wrong, there's a system to fix it, and the government can step in.
The government has also blocked some platforms.
At the same time, the government is promoting the creative technology industries, like animation and gaming, to help them grow.
Indian government aims to balance creative freedom with accountability on OTT platforms.
The Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, are in place for regulation.
A three-tier grievance redressal mechanism has been established.
The government has blocked 43 OTT platforms for displaying inappropriate content.
The AVGC-XR sector is recognized as a core part of India’s creative ecosystem.
