Solicitor General urges Tejpal surrender before Supreme Court appeal

Solicitor General urges Tejpal surrender before Supreme Court appeal

Tarun Tejpal is appealing a conviction in a sexual assault case.

The Goa government says he must first surrender before the Supreme Court can hear his appeal.

His lawyer says that is not necessary because the High Court gave him four weeks before surrendering.

The Supreme Court said the lawyer had not yet fully argued why Tejpal should be excused from surrendering.

It scheduled that request for discussion on August 25, 2026.

The case began with allegations from 2013 involving a journalist at a hotel in Goa.

A trial court acquitted Tejpal in 2021.

The Bombay High Court later convicted him and sentenced him to 10 years in prison.
