Trump Expands Travel Ban to 20 More Entities
President Trump has made new rules to stop people from more countries from easily coming to the United States.
The new rules affect people from Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan, and Syria, as well as people with special travel documents from Palestine.
The U.S. government says these rules are to keep the country safe.
Some people think the rules are unfair and hurt relationships with other countries, but the government believes they are necessary.
The rules also make it harder for people from 15 other countries to visit the U.S. One country, Turkmenistan, will have some of its restrictions loosened.
The changes were announced after a shooting involving someone from Afghanistan, which made the government want to be stricter about who can enter the country.
President Trump expanded the travel ban to include five more countries: Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan, and Syria.
The ban also now includes individuals holding Palestinian-Authority-issued travel documents.
The U.S. imposed partial entry restrictions on 15 additional countries: Angola, Antigua and Barbuda, Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Dominica, Gabon, Gambia, Malawi, Mauritania, Nigeria, Senegal, Tanzania, Tonga, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
The expansion follows the arrest of an Afghan national suspected in the shooting of two National Guard troops near the White House.
The White House stated that the measures are necessary to prevent the entry of foreign nationals about whom the U.S. lacks sufficient information to assess the risks they pose.
