Goa Assembly Session To Consider Proposed Anti-Conversion Bill

Goa Assembly Session To Consider Proposed Anti-Conversion Bill

Goa’s state assembly will meet for three days starting August 31.

The government plans to present a proposed law about religious conversions.

The bill would punish conversions carried out through force, pressure, deception, rewards or marriage.

Some people found guilty could face life in prison.

They could also receive a fine of at least Rs 50,000.

Victims could receive compensation of up to Rs 5 lakh.

Congress says the bill could increase communal tension.

An independent government-supporting MLA has also asked the chief minister to reconsider it.

The assembly will also consider questions submitted by lawmakers.
