NGT Seeks Clarification on Quarrying Near ACTREC
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has asked the Raigad District Collector to provide more information about quarrying activities near the Advanced Centre for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC) in Kharghar.
ACTREC has raised concerns about blasting and dust from quarrying, which they say are damaging buildings and causing health problems.
The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) reported that quarrying has taken place on about 14 hectares of land, but it's not clear if any permissions were given after 2020-21.
The NGT wants the Collector to clarify this and has given all parties two weeks to respond.
The next hearing is scheduled for September 15, 2026.
NGT directs Raigad District Collector to file a fresh affidavit on quarrying permissions near ACTREC.
ACTREC claims blasting and dust from quarrying cause structural damage and health risks.
MPCB reports quarrying on 14 hectares, with operators claiming materials are from authorized excavation for Navi Mumbai International Airport.
NGT notes MPCB's affidavit lacks clarity on permissions granted after 2020-21.
Next hearing scheduled for September 15, 2026.
