Panel Recommends OBC Income Limit Revision
A government committee wants to change the income limit for OBC families to get help, because the current limit might exclude too many people.
They think incomes have gone up, so more families should qualify.
However, the government department in charge doesn't plan to change the limit right now.
The committee says that the income threshold needs to be revised because of increasing inflation.
In 2017 the limit was increased from Rs 6.5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh.
The committee also wants to adjust how much parents can earn for their kids to get scholarships.
Parliamentary panel urges revision of OBC creamy layer income limit.
The panel reiterated its recommendation, while the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment stated no current proposal exists.
The committee views the Rs 8 lakh threshold as insufficient due to income and inflation increases.
The last revision to the income threshold was in 2017, from Rs 6.5 lakh to Rs 8 lakh.
The panel recommended raising the parental income limit for pre-matric scholarships.
