Intense Competition for Deputy Council President Posts in Lonavala and Talegaon
In two towns in Maharashtra, Lonavala and Talegaon Dabhade, there is a lot of competition for the job of Deputy President in the local government.
The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) won most of the seats in both towns, so they get to choose who will be the Deputy President.
In Lonavala, most of the new councillors are new, so people are wondering if they will get a chance or if the experienced councillor will be chosen.
In Talegaon, there are three main people who want the job: one with a lot of experience, one who won by a big margin, and one who has worked hard for years.
The MLA, Sunil Shelke, has to decide who gets the job, and he might have already made a plan.
The decision will be made soon, in the next few days.
The NCP won a majority in both Lonavala and Talegaon Dabhade Municipal Councils, making them the key decision-makers for the Deputy President posts.
In Lonavala, the NCP won 16 out of 27 seats, with 15 new councillors, leading to a debate between giving new faces a chance or choosing the experienced councillor.
In Talegaon, the NCP has 18 out of 28 seats, and three main contenders are vying for the Deputy President post: Sandeep Shelke, Sudam Shelke, and Sangeeta Khalde.
The BJP holds the President post in Talegaon, but the NCP's majority ensures they control the Deputy President and committee chairperson positions.
MLA Sunil Shelke is expected to make the final decision on the Deputy President posts in the next 3-4 days, with rumors suggesting he has already prepared a plan.
