Fresh Heavy Rain Threatens Nepal’s Flood-Hit Recovery Efforts

Fresh Heavy Rain Threatens Nepal’s Flood-Hit Recovery Efforts

Nepal is expecting very heavy rain from Friday through Sunday.

Some areas could receive extremely heavy rainfall.

This is not a repeat of the August 26 floods, but it could create new dangers.

Landslides, floods and flows of mud and rocks may happen.

Roads and riverbanks damaged by the earlier floods are especially vulnerable.

The August disaster killed more than 1,450 people and left about 5,600 missing.

Landslides have already blocked parts of an important highway in Dhading.

Roads in nearby Chitwan have also been closed because of landslide risks.

Officials are watching rivers and asking people to avoid unnecessary travel and vulnerable areas.
