Pimpri-Chinchwad Constables’ Proposed Alandi Same-Sex Wedding Called Off

Pimpri-Chinchwad Constables’ Proposed Alandi Same-Sex Wedding Called Off

Two women police constables in Maharashtra planned a wedding ceremony in Alandi.

They had met while trying to join the police force and later worked at the same police station.

They also lived together for some time and planned to spend their lives together.

The ceremony was supposed to use Vedic rituals and take place on August 30.

Their families and police colleagues learned about the plan after the women requested leave and attached an invitation.

The family of one constable reportedly objected and asked senior police officers to intervene.

The wedding has now been called off, but nobody has officially explained why.

In India, adults can have same-sex relationships, but same-sex marriages do not currently receive official legal recognition.

One constable is also receiving gender-transition treatment, and a separate employee’s request to update police records after gender reassignment is still pending.
