Iceland Joins Eurovision 2026 Boycott Over Israel
There's a big argument about Israel being allowed to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2026.
Some countries, like Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and now Iceland, have already said they won't participate because of this.
They think it's not fair or right, especially because of the war in Gaza.
The organization in charge, called the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), said Israel can still compete, but they made some new rules to keep the voting fair.
Other countries, like Poland, are still deciding what they will do.
In the UK, most people want Israel to be kicked out, but the BBC still supports the EBU's decision.
The contest is supposed to be a fun cultural event, but this argument is making it difficult for everyone involved.
Iceland's national broadcaster, RÚV, announced it will boycott Eurovision 2026 over Israel's participation, joining Ireland, Spain, Netherlands, and Slovenia.
The decision was made after a public debate in Iceland, with RÚV stating that neither joy nor peace would prevail regarding their participation.
The walkouts cast a cloud over the future of the contest, which turns 70 in 2026, dealing a blow to fans, broadcasters, and the contest's finances.
The EBU adopted tougher contest voting rules in response to allegations of vote manipulation by Israel but did not exclude any broadcaster from the competition.
The final list of competing nations will be published before Christmas, with Poland expected to make a decision by December 15.
