China and India Launch Massive Tech Funds
Both China and India have started big funds to help new tech companies grow.
China has a 100 billion yuan fund to support startups in areas like computer chips and space technology.
The funds will last for 20 years and focus on smaller companies.
India has a Rs 1 lakh crore fund to support private-sector research and development in areas like quantum computing and green energy.
The Indian fund offers unsecured loans to encourage innovation and help new technologies move from labs to the market.
Both countries want to become leaders in technology and compete with other countries like the US.
China launched a 100 billion yuan national venture capital fund and three regional funds, each expected to grow over 50 billion yuan.
The Chinese funds will prioritize seed and startup firms, with at least 70% of investments going to companies valued at no more than 500 million yuan.
India launched a Rs 1 lakh crore ($12 billion) RDI Fund to support private-sector research and development in cutting-edge sectors.
The Indian fund offers unsecured, long-term loans at low or nil interest rates, and in select cases, equity financing for startups.
Both funds aim to foster home-grown tech champions and address gaps in investment for emerging industries.
