Adani Breaks Ground on ₹4,000-Crore New Town Hospital
A large new hospital is being built in New Town, West Bengal.
It will have 2,000 beds.
Half of the beds will be reserved for poorer patients who qualify for free treatment through health insurance schemes.
The project will cost more than ₹4,000 crore.
It will also have colleges to train doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers.
The hospital will first focus on cancer treatment.
It is expected to open in about three years.
Officials hope it will reduce the number of patients travelling to other places for treatment.
Gautam Adani also announced a major investment plan for West Bengal, although reports gave different figures for its total value.
Suvendu Adhikari and Gautam Adani laid the foundation stone for the 2,000-bed Adani Arogya Mandir in New Town.
The project will cost more than ₹4,000 crore and reserve 1,000 beds for economically weaker patients eligible for free treatment under state and central health insurance schemes.
The 51.75-acre campus will include a medical college, nursing college, paramedical institute, research facilities and housing for healthcare professionals.
The hospital will initially focus on cancer care, is expected to open within three years and could generate more than 10,000 jobs.
Reports cited differing figures for Adani’s planned West Bengal investment by 2035: more than ₹1 lakh crore in two reports and ₹11 lakh crore in another.
