Securities Markets Code of 2025 Introduced
The Indian government has introduced a new Securities Markets Code (SMC) in 2025.
This code combines three older laws into one to make things simpler and clearer.
The code aims to protect investors, make it easier to do business honestly, and remove old, confusing rules.
It also gives more power to the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to regulate the market.
The code is now being reviewed by a committee in Parliament, and it might take some time before it becomes law.
There are some concerns and suggestions about how the code should work, but overall, it seems like a good step to improve the securities market in India.
The Securities Markets Code of 2025 (SMC) consolidates three older acts into a single code.
The code aims to simplify procedures and protect investor interests in the securities market.
SEBI's board composition is proposed to increase to 15 members, including 6 independent members.
The code introduces a 180-day limit for investigations, with provisions for extensions.
The National Institute of Securities Market (NISM) will be regulated by SEBI for capacity building of intermediaries.
