Supreme Court Order Sparks Mass Migration to Ceuta

Supreme Court Order Sparks Mass Migration to Ceuta

On July 30, 2026, a court decision in Spain said people who tried to cross the sea to reach the Spanish towns of Ceuta or Melilla would not be sent back right away.

This made a lot of people from Morocco try to swim across the water.

About 49,000 people came in one day, and 18 of them died.

The Spanish army and police rushed to the area to keep order.

The local leaders in Ceuta asked the national government to declare an emergency and bring more troops.

Even Italy’s prime minister said it might have to close the Schengen border with Spain to stop more people from coming.

The whole event shows how a court decision can change how many people try to enter a country.
