30 judges appointed to four high courts on Saturday

India has big courts called High Courts where important legal cases are heard.

On Saturday, the government appointed 30 new judges to four of these courts.

Some of the new judges were lawyers who used to argue cases in court.

Others were judges who worked in smaller courts before.

The Madras High Court received the most new judges, with 15 appointments.

The Calcutta High Court received 8 new judges.

The Karnataka High Court received 6 new judges, and the Madhya Pradesh High Court received 1.

Many new judges start as 'additional judges' before becoming permanent.

After about two years, additional judges are usually made permanent judges.
