Kolkata Durga Puja Honors 41 Forgotten Bengal Revolutionaries
A Durga Puja committee in Kolkata has made its celebration about 41 revolutionaries who are not widely remembered.
Their stories come from a time when people in Bengal resisted British colonial rule.
The theme is called “Souls of Fire.”
It uses fire to show resistance and light to suggest hope and freedom.
The installation also presents the Goddess as a symbol of resistance.
The committee wants visitors to remember people beyond the most famous revolutionaries.
It says these young people gave their lives in the freedom struggle.
South Kolkata’s 66 Pally Durga Puja is themed around 41 lesser-known revolutionaries of Bengal’s “Agni Yug.”
The theme, titled “Souls of Fire: Forty-one Forgotten Revolutionaries of the Age of Fire,” recalls the period after Bengal’s 1905 partition.
The installation aims to bring attention to revolutionaries who were executed for their roles in the freedom movement.
Its imagery uses fire and light to represent resistance, the end of colonial subjugation and the journey toward freedom.
The committee says the puja is intended both to celebrate the goddess and to remember young lives lost in the struggle against colonial rule.
