Mufti Raises Concern Over Kashmir Undertrials in Outside Jails
Mehbooba Mufti, a former leader in Jammu and Kashmir, is worried about people from Kashmir who are waiting for their trials in jails far from home.
She says these people, called undertrials, have been in jail for a long time without being convicted.
Many families can't afford to visit them or help with their legal cases.
The courts have not helped much, and the government has not shared information about these prisoners.
Mufti wants the current leaders to bring these prisoners back to jails in Kashmir and help them.
She promises to keep fighting for their rights.
Mehbooba Mufti expressed concern over 1,260 undertrial prisoners from Kashmir lodged in jails outside the Union Territory.
Families of these undertrials lack financial means to visit or pursue legal remedies.
Some undertrials have been in jail for 5-6 years without trial, violating basic legal principles.
The High Court dismissed a petition seeking intervention, asking individuals to file cases themselves.
Mufti appealed to the Chief Minister and MPs to intervene and shift detainees back to jails within Kashmir.
