Iran warns Cyprus, Bulgaria over US military base use
Iran's foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, talked to the leaders of Cyprus and Bulgaria on the phone.
He said that if these countries let the United States use their military bases, they could be seen as helping Iran's enemies.
In Cyprus, he asked the government to make sure British bases on the island are not used to attack Iran.
In Bulgaria, he urged the country to stop allowing US planes to use a Bulgarian air base for operations in West Asia.
Iran warned that any country that lets the US use its land for attacks would be considered a partner in the aggression.
The warning comes as tensions between Iran and the United States are high.
Iran has previously warned other countries that host US forces.
The goal is to keep Iran safe from potential attacks launched from abroad.
The messages were delivered by phone and were reported by CNN.
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned Cyprus and Bulgaria that allowing US military use of their bases could implicate them in aggression against Iran.
Araghchi called on Cyprus to prevent foreign military bases from being used for operations against Iran, citing assurances from the UK about British bases.
He urged Bulgaria to reverse its decision to let US aircraft use a Bulgarian air base for operations in West Asia.
Iran said any state permitting such use would be considered complicit and could bear responsibility for consequences.
The warnings come amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, following Bulgaria's parliament approval of US base use.
