Mexico Imposes 50% Tariffs on Asian Imports
Mexico has decided to put new taxes, called tariffs, on products coming from Asian countries like China and India.
These taxes can be as high as 50%.
The Mexican Senate voted for this, with most people agreeing but some not.
The goal is to help Mexican businesses and make more money for the country.
This is similar to what the US did with its 'America First' policy.
The new taxes will start in 2026 and will affect over 1,400 different products, like cars, clothes, and steel.
Some people and countries are not happy about this, but the Mexican government thinks it's a good idea.
Indian companies that export cars and car parts to Mexico are worried because these new taxes might make it harder for them to sell their products there.
Mexico's Senate approved tariffs of up to 50% on Asian imports, including from India and China.
The tariffs will affect over 1,400 products, primarily in the auto, textile, and steel industries.
The bill passed with 76 votes in favor, 5 against, and 35 abstentions.
The move aims to bolster Mexico's local industry and generate $3.76 billion in additional revenue.
The tariffs are set to take effect in 2026, with reduced rates and fewer product lines than initially proposed.
