Siliguri to regulate vendors for traffic ease
The Siliguri Municipal Corporation is making a plan to help vendors sell their goods in a way that doesn't block the roads.
They had a meeting with the mayor, police, and vendor groups to talk about this.
They want to make special areas for vendors so that the roads are clear and traffic can move easily.
They also talked about finding more parking spaces because there aren't enough right now.
The plan will start with Hill Cart Road and then spread to other big roads in the city.
Siliguri Municipal Corporation is preparing an SOP to regulate roadside vendors and ease traffic congestion.
A four-member committee has been formed to create the SOP, including representatives from SMC, Siliguri police, and trade bodies.
The initiative aims to streamline hawker vending zones, starting with Hill Cart Road and extending to other major thoroughfares.
The city has 20 dedicated parking spots, which are insufficient, and new parking zones are being identified along major roads.
The Siliguri police have been conducting drives to clear major streets of unauthorized parking.
