Apollo Cancer Centres Visakhapatnam Completes 104 Bone Marrow Transplants

Apollo Cancer Centres in Visakhapatnam performed 104 bone marrow transplants in three years.

Bone marrow transplants can help treat serious blood and cancer-related illnesses.

The patients included 73 adults and 31 children.

Doctors treated illnesses such as leukaemia, lymphoma, thalassemia and sickle cell disease.

The centre said it completed Andhra Pradesh’s first successful transplants for sickle cell anaemia and thalassemia.

It also said it was the only centre in the state to successfully provide five CAR-T cell therapies.

Hospital leaders credited teamwork among medical and support staff.

They said the work helps patients receive specialised treatment closer to home.
