ABVP March, BJP-Linked Event Set for Jadavpur University
Two groups linked to different political views will hold programmes at Jadavpur University on Thursday.
The ABVP will gather near the university’s administrative building and march with India’s national flag.
Its leader said the march would show support for nationalism.
The group also plans to sing “Vande Mataram.”
A BJP-linked committee will hold another event in the university auditorium shortly afterward.
The events are taking place after recent arguments, an alleged assault, and vandalism on campus.
The ABVP says some opponents may try to cause trouble.
An SFI leader says the programme wrongly uses nationalism on a campus connected to the anti-colonial struggle.
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) will march across Jadavpur University on Thursday after assembling at 1:30pm.
The march will carry the national flag and include songs of “Vande Mataram,” according to ABVP leaders.
A BJP-linked Haripada Bharati Smriti Raksha Committee event will follow at 2:30pm in Triguna Sen Auditorium.
The programmes come amid allegations of student assaults and vandalism linked to recent unrest at the university.
ABVP described the march as a nationalist statement, while an SFI leader accused the group of promoting nationalism on an anti-colonial campus.
