IMD to set up new Doppler radar in Tripura
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Tripura government have agreed to build a new Doppler radar station in Belonia, South Tripura.
This new station will help give better weather warnings.
The state already has one in Agartala.
The new one will be ready in a few months.
The government gave 2 acres of land for free.
More such stations are planned for Silchar, Aizawl, and Imphal.
These will help predict weather more accurately, which is important because Tripura faces floods, landslides, extreme heat, and cold weather.
IMD and Tripura government signed an MoU to establish a new Doppler radar station in Belonia, South Tripura.
The new radar station will enhance weather observational capabilities and improve accuracy of weather warnings.
The station is expected to be set up in the next two-three months on 2 acres of land allotted by the state government.
Tripura currently has one Doppler radar station in Agartala.
Three more Doppler radar stations are planned for Silchar, Aizawl, and Imphal to boost weather prediction capabilities.
