Tear gas fired on students as protesters near Jharkhand Assembly

Tear gas fired on students as protesters near Jharkhand Assembly

In a part of India called Jharkhand, some students were very unhappy.

They thought the tests for getting government jobs were not fair.

So they marched to the big government building, called the Assembly, to complain.

The police tried to stop them with barriers.

Some students pushed through the barriers, so the police used water cannons and tear gas.

Tear gas makes your eyes sting, and a water cannon shoots a very strong stream of water.

A police officer said that most of the students were peaceful, but about ten out of every hundred were throwing stones.

The police also said they fired two smoke grenades that were not real, just to scare people away.

The students said they will keep protesting until their demands are met.

They just want the job tests to be fair and honest.
