Political Theme Shapes Ganesh Chaturthi Celebration in Kolkata's Baguiati
A housing complex in Kolkata is celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi for six days.
The celebration has an 11-foot statue of Lord Ganesha.
It also includes a large three-dimensional display about West Bengal.
The display compares events before and after May 4.
Organisers say the later period shows better development and governance under a BJP-led “double-engine government.”
The earlier section shows problems they say affected the state.
The later section shows projects such as a proposed bullet train and new industries.
The organisers say the display combines religion with a message about Bengal’s future.
A six-day Ganesh Chaturthi celebration at a Baguiati apartment complex features an 11-foot idol of Lord Ganesha.
Its political theme contrasts West Bengal before and after May 4 under what organisers call a BJP “double-engine government.”
The first section references the alleged disruption during Lionel Messi’s Kolkata visit, the “Justice for Abhaya” movement, border fencing and alleged cow smuggling.
The post-May 4 section highlights a proposed New Delhi-New Jalpaiguri bullet train, the Chingrighata viaduct gap, new industries and bulldozer action against alleged illegal constructions.
The celebrations were inaugurated by Minister of State for Agricultural Marketing Dilip Ghosh, MLA Tarunjyoti Tewari and others.
