High Court Dismisses Plea Against AMU's First Woman VC
A court in India decided that the new leader (VC) of Aligarh Muslim University, a woman named Prof. Naima Khatoon, can keep her job.
Someone tried to stop her from being the leader, saying her husband, who was also in charge at the time, helped her get the job unfairly.
The court said that even though her husband was involved, it wasn't enough to remove her because she was qualified and the decision was ultimately made by a higher authority.
The court believed that it was important to allow the first woman to lead the university.
Prof. Khatoon has worked at the university since 1988.
The Allahabad High Court dismissed a petition challenging the appointment of Prof. Naima Khatoon as AMU's VC.
Petitioner Prof. Mujahid Beg argued her husband, the acting VC, influenced the selection process.
The court found Khatoon's qualifications were not an issue and the Visitor made the final decision.
The court noted her husband should not have presided, but it did not invalidate the appointment.
The court emphasized the importance of appointing the first woman VC to a premier institution.
