Egg Prices Skyrocket Due to Supply Crunch
Egg prices in India have gone up a lot because there aren't enough eggs to meet the demand.
This is happening because of a few reasons.
First, the cold weather has made people want to eat more eggs.
Second, other countries like the US and Gulf countries are buying more eggs from India.
Third, the rain has damaged the food that chickens eat, which has made it harder for farmers to produce eggs.
Even though the prices are high, farmers are not getting much money because the cost of making eggs is also high.
Experts think the prices might stay high until March and then start to come down.
Egg prices have surged to ₹10 per piece in Delhi, ₹8 in Hyderabad, and ₹7.50 in Chennai due to supply shortages and increased demand.
Farm gate prices have risen sharply since August, peaking in November-December, with the monthly index crossing ₹700 per 100 eggs in major cities.
Farmers are receiving less than ₹6.50 per egg at the farm gate, despite the high retail prices.
Production has plummeted due to rain-damaged feed, leading to a 7-10% fall in output, while winter consumption and export orders have pushed prices upward.
Export demand, particularly from the US and Gulf countries, is a key factor driving egg prices, which are expected to stabilize in January.
