Seven Countries Advance 2036 Olympic Hosting Projects
Seven countries are talking with the International Olympic Committee about hosting the 2036 Olympics.
They are Germany, Hungary, India, Qatar, the Republic of Korea, South Africa and Turkiye.
The countries have been invited to show their plans to an IOC commission in November.
The IOC will consider where events could be held, how the Games would be funded and what the experience would be like for athletes.
It will also look at whether the plans can be delivered and bring lasting benefits to host communities.
India’s plan is centred on Ahmedabad, and India expressed interest in hosting in 2024.
The IOC says other parties must join the process by October 31.
The host is expected to be chosen in 2029.
IOC President Kirsty Coventry says athletes should remain at the heart of the Games.
