Law Ministry Explores Candidates for Second SAT Bench
The Law Ministry is looking for people to form a second team for the Securities Appellate Tribunal, or SAT.
The SAT helps sort out issues about money and investments.
Currently, there is only one team.
Since there are many cases, a second team is needed.
This team would include judges and other experts who would review decisions made by financial regulatory bodies.
Several potential candidates from the judicial community are being considered.
The goal is to make sure that the SAT can handle all the cases and provide quick and fair decisions for everyone involved.
The law ministry is considering candidates to form a second bench for the Securities Appellate Tribunal (SAT).
The SAT has disposed of nearly 7,000 cases since it began.
Justice VG Bisht and Justice Ramesh Dhanuka are among the names considered for the judicial member position.
Justice Mayank Kumar Jain was appointed but did not join as a judicial member in January 2025.
The SAT is working with a backlog of roughly 438 pending appeals in 2025, highlighting the need for more resources.
