Maharashtra Finance Dept. to Oversee Innovation Funds
Imagine the government has a special pot of money for new and cool ideas.
This pot is called the "innovation fund."
The government noticed some of this money was being spent on things that weren't really new or innovative, like regular school supplies.
To fix this, the government decided that the Finance Department would have to say "okay" before any of the money from the innovation fund could be spent.
Before, a different group decided where the money went.
The Finance Department will now check if the projects are actually innovative, using a list of approved ideas.
This should help make sure the money is used the right way and for the best new ideas.
Maharashtra's Finance Department will now clear innovation fund proposals.
The decision aims to prevent the misuse of funds on non-innovative purchases.
Previously, the District Planning and Development Committee (DPDC) approved these projects.
The Finance Department created a list to cross-check projects seeking funds.
