Assam CM Defends Miya Community Remarks
The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has made some very divisive comments about the Miya community, which are Bengali-origin Muslims.
He has been saying that the government is trying to make life difficult for them by sending them notices and trying to remove their names from the voter list.
This has caused a lot of controversy because it seems like he is trying to stop people from a specific community from voting.
The Opposition Leaders, Debabrata Saikia and Gaurav Gogoi, have written a letter to the Chief Justice of India and criticized Sarma on social media, asking for protection of the right to vote and for the court to look into the matter.
Sarma has defended his remarks by saying that the Supreme Court has also talked about the issue of illegal migration in Assam.
Many people are concerned because an elected leader should not be trying to interfere with the voting process.
