Foxconn faces tax, norms row in Devanahalli
There is a big argument between the local village council (Gram Panchayat) and a company called Foxconn in a place called Devanahalli near Bengaluru.
The village council says Foxconn has not paid local taxes, has not followed building rules, and has not given jobs to local people.
They have given Foxconn a warning to fix these issues within seven days, or else there will be a big protest with thousands of people.
The village council also says they might take legal action if Foxconn does not follow the rules.
Koyira Gram Panchayat has issued a formal notice to Foxconn over alleged tax non-payment, violation of local building norms, and denial of jobs to locals.
Foxconn has been asked to submit approved building plans, construction licences, completion and occupancy certificates, and survey-wise built-up area details within seven days.
Local representatives allege that Foxconn has not provided employment to locals, despite calling them for interviews.
The Gram Panchayat has threatened strong legal action under the Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat Raj Act if Foxconn does not comply.
Locals have threatened a mass protest involving thousands of people from multiple panchayats if their demands are not addressed within the seven-day deadline.
