Bongaigaon admin clears 75 bighas of encroached land
The Bongaigaon district administration recently cleared and fenced 75 bighas of government land that was being encroached upon by six families.
This land was originally allotted to a farming research center called Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in 2013.
The families had been using the land for growing rice and other crops.
The administration, along with police, took back the land.
The families said they would leave if they were given another plot of land to continue farming.
This is not the first time the administration has done this; they also cleared another piece of land a few days earlier.
Bongaigaon district administration reclaimed 75 bighas of encroached government land at Kerkhabari Part-II.
The land was allotted to Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in 2013 but was encroached upon by six Koch Rajbongshi families.
The families used the land for paddy cultivation and as a seed bed.
District officials and police, led by District Commissioner Nabadeep Pathak, fenced the land with barbed wire.
The encroachers requested alternative land for paddy farming, claiming previous promises were not fulfilled.
