FIFA Reviews $2.1 Billion Payout After Confederation Push
FIFA is considering giving extra money to football organizations in its member countries.
UEFA and CONCACAF want each of FIFA’s 211 members to receive at least $10 million.
The payments would be made during the 2027-30 period and could total about $2.1 billion.
The money would be used for football development and infrastructure.
UEFA and CONCACAF say FIFA can afford this because its reserves may reach about $6 billion.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino has ordered a review before any decision is made.
The review will check FIFA’s finances, reserve needs, eligibility rules, and auditing requirements.
Infantino supports as much funding as can be responsibly provided but has not agreed to the proposed amount.
FIFA’s Council is expected to discuss the findings on October 15.
UEFA and CONCACAF proposed giving each of FIFA’s 211 member associations at least $10 million during the 2027-30 cycle.
The proposed one-off payments would total about $2.1 billion and come in addition to existing FIFA Forward funding.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino ordered a financial assessment and said no payout amount has been approved.
UEFA and CONCACAF estimated FIFA’s reserves could reach $6 billion by the end of 2026 and remain above $1.5 billion after distribution.
The FIFA Council is expected to review the assessment on October 15, subject to financial checks and formal approval.
