Delhi Seeks Control of ITO Barrage from Haryana for Flood Control
Imagine a big water gate in Delhi called the ITO Barrage.
Even though it's in Delhi, another state, Haryana, controls it.
This was because it was built long ago to give water to a power plant that isn't used anymore.
Now, Delhi wants to control it because they worry about floods.
In 2023, the water got very high, and it was hard to open the gates.
Delhi's leaders now want to fix the gates and make sure they can manage the water better to protect the city from floods.
ITO Barrage in Delhi is managed by Haryana, despite being in Delhi.
The barrage was built in the 1960s by the Punjab government (before Haryana's creation).
Originally, it supplied water to a thermal power plant that closed in the 2000s.
The Delhi government seeks control to improve flood management.
Delhi's Water Minister approved plans to repair and modernize the gates.
