Robots trace 40-year-old sewage leak in Bengaluru
In a neighborhood in Bengaluru called Lingarajapuram, people started getting sick because their drinking water was dirty.
They found out that a very old sewage pipe, which was 40 years old, had rusted and was leaking into the drinking water.
The water board used special robots to find the leak.
They are now fixing the pipe and telling people to replace their own pipes at home to stop this from happening again.
While they fix the pipes, they are giving free clean water to the affected families.
Residents of Lingarajapuram reported foul-smelling water and illnesses, prompting an investigation.
BWSSB used advanced robotic technology to identify a 40-year-old rusted sewage pipeline leaking into the drinking water supply.
The corroded galvanised-iron pipe allowed sewage to infiltrate the potable water supply.
BWSSB is replacing the old pipeline with modern ductile iron pipes and advising residents to replace their individual pipes.
Water supply has been shut off since last Friday and is expected to resume by Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.
