Ahmedabad Clears Lake Encroachments with Heavy Machinery
The city of Ahmedabad is cleaning up a big lake by removing illegal buildings around it.
They used big machines and many police officers to do this.
They removed 450 buildings, including houses and shops.
The city is also making sure that the people who lived in these buildings have a place to stay.
They didn't remove two religious buildings because of some issues.
The city plans to do similar clean-ups around other lakes too.
Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) cleared 58,000 square metres of encroached area, including 24,000 square metres of core lake area.
450 illegal structures, including 425 residential and 25 commercial, were demolished.
Eight teams with ten heavy machines and 300 AMC staff were involved in the operation.
More than 350 police personnel were deployed for security, with drones used for aerial surveillance.
Families displaced by the demolition were shifted to temporary shelters, with eligible families to be provided alternative accommodation.
