India's Economic Growth and Budget 2026 Expectations
India's economy is growing at a strong pace, with a projected GDP growth of 7.5% in the financial year 2026.
This growth is supported by increased investment in infrastructure, a revival in private capital expenditure, and sustained interest from foreign investors.
The government is expected to present a budget that focuses on fiscal consolidation, lowering the debt-GDP ratio, and promoting manufacturing through initiatives like Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Key expectations include boosting consumption, improving the ease of doing business, and securing access to critical minerals.
The government is also expected to support MSMEs, which contribute significantly to India's GDP and exports.
Despite global challenges like the Covid pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, India's economy is showing resilience.
The trade deficit narrowed in November 2025, and exports to the US have increased despite steep tariff hikes.
Overall, the budget is expected to focus on making India's economy stronger and more stable.
India's GDP is projected to grow by 7.5% in FY26 and 7% in FY27, supported by a revival in private capital expenditure and sustained investor interest in new-age sectors.
The fiscal deficit for the first 8 months of 2025 is at 4% of GDP, one of the lowest levels since 2011, excluding the pandemic years, with the government expected to meet its fiscal deficit target of 4.4% of GDP for FY26.
Key expectations for Budget 2026 include boosting consumption, promoting manufacturing through initiatives like Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat, and improving the ease of doing business.
The government is also expected to focus on securing access to critical minerals, supporting MSMEs, and implementing factor market reforms, including the implementation of new labour codes.
India's trade deficit narrowed sharply in November 2025 to $24.53 billion, with exports to the US increasing by 11.4% year-on-year despite steep tariff hikes, and imports from the US increasing by 9.3%.
