Joe Root Needs 42 Runs for WTC Captain Record
Joe Root is a very famous cricket player from England.
He is the captain of the England cricket team again.
England is going to play three cricket matches against Pakistan.
The first match starts on Wednesday, August 19, at a cricket ground called Headingley in Leeds.
Joe Root has scored a huge number of runs in his career.
If he scores just 42 runs in this match, he will set a new world record.
He would be the first captain ever to score 3,000 runs in the World Test Championship.
He is also close to other big records, like scoring 23,000 runs in international cricket.
If he plays really well, he could break records set by famous players like Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Ponting.
That is why cricket fans are watching him very closely.
Joe Root needs 42 runs in the first Test against Pakistan at Headingley to become the first player to score 3,000 runs as captain in the World Test Championship.
Root currently has 2,958 runs in 33 WTC matches as captain, having led England in the WTC from 2019 to 2022 and again in June 2026.
He is 167 runs away from becoming the first Englishman and eighth player overall to reach 23,000 international runs.
A half-century in both innings would break Sachin Tendulkar's record of 68 half-centuries in Test cricket.
Root needs 79 runs at Headingley to surpass Ricky Ponting's record of 7,578 runs for the most runs in home Tests.
