Four Unidentified Bodies Recovered in India Handed Over to Nepal
Four bodies were found in a river in Uttar Pradesh near the Nepal border.
Three of the bodies were women and one was a man.
Officials did not know who they were.
The bodies were examined at a hospital, and DNA samples were collected.
DNA can help compare the bodies with samples from families looking for missing relatives.
The bodies were then taken across the border and given to Nepal authorities.
Strong floodwaters may have carried them downstream from Nepal.
Officials said many people were still missing after floods and landslides in Nepal.
Four unidentified bodies—three women and one man—were recovered from the Narayani-Gandak river in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district.
The bodies were found on August 27 and kept at the Maharajganj district hospital mortuary.
Post-mortem examinations were conducted, and DNA samples were collected to help identify the deceased.
Officials transported the bodies in two ambulances and handed them to Nepal authorities at the Maheshpur border late Sunday night.
The recovery occurred amid devastating floods in Nepal, where 903 people had died and 4,247 remained missing, according to officials.
