Rupee rises, stock market falls
The Indian rupee went up by 31 paise to close at 89.87 against the US dollar on Wednesday.
This happened because the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) might have stepped in, and the price of oil went down.
However, the stock market in India fell for the third day in a row.
This was because investors were worried about the economy and the US might put higher taxes on Indian products.
Some stocks like Titan Company and HCL Technologies did well, but others like Cipla and Maruti Suzuki did not.
Experts think the rupee might stay between 89.50 and 90.50 for now.
Also, the Indian services sector grew a bit slower in December.
The rupee appreciated 31 paise to close at 89.87 (provisional) against the US dollar on Wednesday, snapping a four-day losing streak.
The rupee's rise was attributed to possible intervention by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and a fall in global crude oil prices.
The Indian stock market fell for the third consecutive day, with the Sensex and Nifty 50 declining by 0.12% and 0.14% respectively.
Sectoral performance was mixed, with Nifty IT, Consumer Durables, Chemicals, and Pharma closing with gains, while Nifty Auto, Oil & Gas, Realty, and PSU Bank closed lower.
US President Donald Trump's threat of higher tariffs on Indian exports due to India's purchase of Russian oil weighed on market sentiment.
